Biographical history

Daniel Noonan (1826?-1902) owned property in Centerville, near Bedeque, Prince Edward Island in the 1850s. He was licensed to run a country inn tavern in Bedeque from 1856 to 1871, and "The Dominion Hotel" in Summerside in 1873. Noonan worked as a blacksmith, and was also granted a distillery license from 1857 to 1864, as well as a country store license in 1860. Daniel married Catherine Comar (?-1877) on 10 April 1855. His second wife, Elizabeth Scully, died the 5 November 1888 and his third wife was Mary Ellen (1833-?). Daniel had at least seven children: Hannah (1867-?), Daniel (1873-?), Catherine (1880-?), Mary (1883-?), Celia (1885-?), Stanislaus (1887-?), and Gertrude (1889-?).

Custodial history

Scope and content

The fonds consists of the ledger of Daniel Noonan for revenue generated from his tavern and work as a blacksmith from 1856 to 1866. Accounts for men in the Bedeque area list payments for the shoeing of horses, and the fixing and sharpening of axes, plough irons, and farm forks. There are also many accounts for the sale of gallons, pints, or bottles of liquor.
