Biographical history
Vernon Crockett (1878-1951) was the second child of George Crockett (1849-1923) and Mary MacFarlane (1851-1944) of York, Prince Edward Island. He was educated at York school, Prince of Wales College, and also obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree (university unknown). Vernon taught school at York for a short time and worked as an Inspector of Schools. He then held the position of principal at MacDonald Consolidated school in Bunbary until it closed in 1912. Enlisting on 21 November 1915, Crockett joined the 104th Canadian Infantry and served overseas in World War I. Upon returning from the war, Vernon moved to British Columbia where he taught school for twenty-three years. He retired to PEI where he lived in York with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Watts.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of a photograph of Vernon Crockett (date unknown), biographical notes of Vernon Crockett written by Lorna Knox (date unknown), and a dairy kept by Vernon during his service overseas during World War I. This dairy, which documents his wartime experiences from July 1916 until February of 1918, gives accounts of the weather, medical exams, and air raids. It also includes notes on bombs, illustrations and instructions of hand grenades, unidentified photographs, a programe of "Canada's Jubilee" Celebration at Westminister Abbey on 2 July 1917, and a menu for "Christmas Day, 1917" for all Canadian troops training in England.
