Alexander Currie appears to have been the captain of the "Sparrow Hawk", a schooner which sailed out of Hamilton, Bermuda, in October 1889. The ship stopped at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in mid-November before continuing on to Cape Breton. Currie relinquished his command of the ship to a Captain Thomas Wittle on 17 December 1889 at Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. The "Sparrow Hawk" was owned by Henry Cox Outerbridge a merchant from Hamilton. It was registered in 1889 and abandoned at sea later that year.
