History

In 1982, the Association of Nurses of Prince Edward Island celebrated their sixtieth anniversary by establishing an archives and collecting material for a book. The collecting of material was undertaken by the Summerside chapter of the Association. The Archival Committee that was established in that year was created because the Association of Nurses deemed "the history of nursing essential for the development of future trends." In the years that followed, the committee compiled listings of written material, artifacts, photographs, and books donated. When the head office of the Association moved from its original location on Pownal Street to smaller offices on Queen Street in 2000, the bulk of their collection of artifacts were taken to the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation.
