Historique

Fanny Amelia Wright was born in 1813 or 1814 in Kensington (London) England, the daughter of Charles Wright. She came to Lower Canada in 1833 when her father was posted to Quebec. On April 2, 1838 she married Captain Henry Wolsley Bayfield, surveyor. In 1841 the couple moved to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. They had 4 sons and 2 daughters.

Fanny was an accomplished musician and painter. She painted several watercolour scenes of Quebec and continued to paint in Prince Edward Island where she also gave lessons in painting. As well as local scenes, she painted realistic watercolours of wildflowers many of which were included in an album entitled "Canadian wild flowers". As she did not sign her paintings, identification of her work is often difficult. Fanny Bayfield died in Charlottetown at the age of 77 on 11 September 1891.
