Custodial history

Scope and content

This collection consists of a photograph depicting Mt. Stewart bridge with the Bourke house and outbuildings on the far side of the bridge in the distance. One man with a bicycle and two women are standing in the roadbed this side of the bridge. One of the Bourke mills is partially visible. The photograph was likely taken by A.W. Mitchell. The mount is inscribed Cloud Hill, Charlottetown.

John Roche Bourke was a prominent landowner, merchant and shipbuilder. In the 1880's he lived at Mt. Stewart Bridge, Prince Edward Island, where he operated a general store as well as operating flour, saw, and carding mills. Bourke, his wife Isabell, and their four children left the Mt. Stewart area in the 1890's.
