Bruce Stewart & Co. was founded in 1893 under the partnership of Bruce Stewart and Andrew McNair. On 17 January it was incorporated under the name Bruce Stewart and Co. Ltd. The company originally leased (1898), and later purchased (1916), the Steam Navigation Company Wharf in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island where they operated a machine shop , blacksmith shop and foundry for the manufacture of marine engines, propellers, potato diggers, lobster packing plant equipment, boilers and steam engines. The company's products were sold throughout the Maritimes and as far away as New Zealand and South Africa. Later they sold cars, trucks, tractors and agricultural sprayers and dusters. The Company also owned and operated electric and acetylene welding equipment and plated and refitted draggers and government vessels. They also engaged in a general plumbing and heating business in Charlottetown. In 1957 the Company was sold to Charlottetown Marine Industries.
