History

The Charlottetown Business and Professional Women's Club was organized in 1949 to promote the status of Prince Edward Island women in all areas. Officers and executive were installed by the Chairman of the National Federation at a gala celebration on 15 May 1950. In 1951 a Club was also organized in Summerside, PEI. Through the years the Club has supported the work of various community service organizations such as the Red Cross, Mental Health Association, Free Dispensary, and welfare organizations. Members have also been involved in civic affairs, campaigning for the clean-up of litter, jury duty for women, a demerit system for drivers, etc. The Club provided financial support for the PEI Music Festival and established an annual scholarship awarded to the girl attaining highest standing in the Festival. For many years the Club produced a monthly newsletter entitled "The Busy Woman's Bulletin" and has also written brief resumes and histories of the activities of the Club.
