Biographical history

The Charlottetown Business College, sometimes referred to as the Actual Business College or the Commercial College was founded in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in 1873. It was designed to provide young men (and later young women) with an education in business practice, book-keeping, typing, shorthand, penmanship, accounting, and commercial law. In the early years it also prepared masters and mates for their local marine examination. Leonard Bowles Miller, one of the first teachers at the College soon became principal, a post he retained until his death in 1938. Originally located on the corner of King and Queen Street, by 1889 the College has taken up residence at 130 Richmond Street where it remained until its closure shortly after the death of L. B. Miller.
