On 26 March 1901, a meeting was held at Kindergarten Hall in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, for the purpose of forming a music society. The following representatives were elected as the first executive of the proposed society: Professor W. H. Watts (President and Musical Director), Mr C. Leigh (Secretary), and Mr H. Haszard (Treasurer).

Title based on provenance of the fonds
This fonds consists of one volume of minutes detailing the meetings of the Charlottetown Philharmonic Society for the period 1901-1903. The volume also contains details of practices and rehearsals, lists of members, financial statements, and newspaper clippings of concert reviews.
The contents of this fonds were donated to the Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation ca. 1975 by Wheston Smith. Many of the archival collections of the Foundation were transferred to the Public Archives and Records Office of Prince Edward Island in 1979.
