History

The Contact Club of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, was originally organized as a sociability club for RCAF wives but quickly developed into a service club. Members met weekly and organized accomodation for servicemen, visits to the hospital and to servicemen's wives, financial assistance for widows, and mending for servicemen stationed on Prince Edward Island. They also contributed to other funds sending cigarettes, food, and blankets overseas and participated in the Red Cross knitting and sewing programs. They sponsored recreational activities such as social meetings, bridge, hikes, boating, beach parties, and bowling leagues.
