This series consists of financial and administrative records kept by the clerks of the County Court of Prince County. These documents may also include some deputy prothonotary records as the same individual appears to have often held both positions. This series is divided into 6 subseries: day books, county court fees, journals, ledgers, correspondence, and miscellaneous.
County clerks were appointed to record the legal, administrative, and financial transactions of the County Courts.
SUBSERIES DESCRIPTIONS AVAILABLE
This subseries consists of 15 volumes of day books kept by the County Clerk of the County Court of Prince County. Day books are books in which all the occurrences of the day are set down and are usually books of original entries. Information recorded includes case number, name of the individual requesting the service, the names of the plaintiffs and defendants involved, the type of document or service provided (ie. minute of judgment, affidavit, pleas, bill of sale, replication, declaration, record and so on), and the amount received or paid out. The volumes are arranged chronologically and appear to be for the Fifth circuit.

This subseries consists of volumes containing records of the sums of money collected by the County Court of Prince County for various administrative services. These volumes record "Account Fees Received in County Court" including such information as the date, the name of the person (or account), what the fee was for, amount of the payment, and total of the amounts on each page. They appear to be for the 5th circuit.

This subseries consists of 2 accounting journals kept by the County Clerk of the County Court of Prince County. Journals were used to record the debits and credits of each financial transaction of the County Court. Information recorded includes date, name of person(s) involved in transaction, cheque number, case number, amount received or paid as well as debits and credits for Sheriff's fees, Bank, Paid into court, Provincial Treasurer, Clerk's Fees and Supreme Court.

This subseries consists of 9 accounting ledgers for the Fifth circuit, County Court of Prince County. Ledgers were the final books of entry in which the standing of each account with the County Court was recorded separately. Accounts included those for Prothonotary Fees, County Court Fees, Supreme Court Disbursements, Summons and other County Court papers issued, money paid into Court, Provincial Treasurer, cash account, as well as accounts with various lawyers and businesses.

This subseries consists of 4 files of correspondence directed to the office of the Deputy Prothonotary and County Clerk's office in Prince County. The first file contains correspondence addressed to W. Gordon Silliker; the remaining three contain letters addressed to Joseph F. Arsenault. The correspondence includes: letters from lawyers, plaintiffs, and other interested parties; requests for writs , etc., to be issued; notes about monies collected or to be collected; and lists of notes in hand.

This subseries consists of two textual items which do not appear to belong to any other series. These items include two posters. The first is entitled "The County Court Act 1878 and Amendments, Section 119, Table of Fees Allowed, Schedule 'A' Chapter 14, 1931". The second is also a table of fees and is undated. These items were posted in the office of the County Clerk for easy referencing.
