Biographical history
Dr. John C. McKeown was born in Ireland in 1803. He married Ann Olding of Pictou County, Nova Scotia; they had six children. Dr. McKeown, his wife and a daughter were settled in Georgetown by 1832 where he lived until his death. Dr. McKeown practiced as a physician and surgeon as well as a druggist. Dr. McKeown died in Georgetown in 1887.

This fonds consists of one account book, spanning the years 1830 to 1883, which lists: the services purchased by clients; medicines sold to individuals; goods purchased by Dr. McKeown; and lists of births attended (listed by date, father's name, gender of baby, and fee charged). A couple of pages from the Church of Scotland Monthly Record are also adhered to the pages of the account book.
