Biographical history

Dr. Martin Martin was born in Lot 57, Prince Edward Island, the son of Alex and Margaret McLeod Martin. After his early education in local public schools, he attended Prince of Wales College and later Trinity College in Toronto where he studied medicine. He graduated from Trinity in 1880 with first-class honours in various branches of medical science. He also received a silver medal for his efforts during the four-year course of study.

Upon graduation, Dr. Martin returned to Grandview, where he established a medical practice. His practice extended over most of Queen's County and a large part of King's County.

In partnership with his nephew, Alexander Matheson, Dr. Martin was co-owner of a large general merchandise store in Grandview. At various times during his career, he served as health officer and was a strong supporter of the Liberal party. Dr. Martin was married to Maggie Bruce of Grandview. They had four children: Alex, Angus, Florence, and John Angus.
