Custodial history

Scope and content

The fonds consists of an account book for legal services rendered, a loans ledger, and scrapbook of E. J. Hodgson. The account book lists detailed legal services completed by Hodgson on behalf of the Railways and other federal government departments between 1882 and 1889. The majority of pre-1883 entries are for general railway activities and those after 1883 pertain mainly to property acquisition and other transactions for the construction of branch railways.

"Loan Ledger B" contains a detailed account of E. J. Hodgson's records of monies loaned and repayment schedules. In most cases the entries give the source (estate or individual) of the loaned monies. Most of the loans are secured by mortgages.

The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings of political events, legal matters, and church affairs from 1873 to 1890. Many of the newspaper clippings are letters to the editors of various PEI papers written by Edward j. Hodgson, as well as the responses to them. The scrapbook also contains programs of services held at St. Peters Anglican Church in Charlottetown.
