Robert Hill Edwards was born in Whitchurch, England, on the 26 October 1817, the third of six children of John Edwards and Marion Hill. . He married Mary Stubbs (1814-1865) on the 17 January 1839, and they had seven children: Mary Elizabeth (Oxenham) (1841-1918); Thomas Jeffreys (1844-1877); John Reece (1846-1940); Robert Hill (1848-1904); Marion Torrap (Deacon) (1851-1919); James Torrap (1854-?); and Philip Michael (1856-?). Robert was a lay preacher in the Wesleyan Church. In 1850-1851, Robert sailed with his family to Prince Edward Island. He settled in North Wiltshire where he taught school. Robert died at North Wiltshire on the 30 December 1858.
