Biographical history

George T. Fulford was a resident of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Custodial history

Mr. Fulford purchased these post cards at an antique shop in Ontario.

Scope and content

The collection contains 4 postcards produced sometime between 1920 and 1939, depicting the entrance road to Government House, Government Pond, Charlottetown Harbour, and the grounds of the Cundall home (now Beaconsfield) which was in close proximity to Government House. Government House is located at the edge of Victoria Park, overlooking Charlottetown Harbour, Prince Edward Island, on land set aside for this purpose as early as 1789. The residence itself was built between 1832 and December 1834 when Lt.- Gov. Aretas W. Young moved in. With the exception of a brief period of time following World War I when it provided office space for a convalescent hospital, it has served continuously as the official residence of the Lieutenant-Governor.
