History

The Loyal Orange Lodge Association is a Protestant institution of brotherhood founded in England in 1690. The first branch of the Loyal Orange Lodge on Prince Edward Island was Boyne L.O.L., No. 614, in 1855. The The R. W. (Right Worshipable) Grand Orange Lodge of Prince Edward Island was organized in Charlottetown in 1861 and was incorporated in 1891. The first Grand Master was George P. Tanton. The Orange Order established the first Protestant children's orphanage in PEI in 1922 at Mount Herbert and regularly provided assistance to the orphanage in the form of needed supplies. The Grand Orange Lodge also contributed to charitable organizations, including the Protestant Children's Fund, the Grand Orange Lodge of British America Benefit Fund, and the Orange Foundation.
