Scope and content
The Helen Palmer Ward was believed to be in the Prince Edward Island Hospital located on Longworth Avenue in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The ward may have been named after the daughter of Charles Palmer. Charles Palmer was chairman of the board of the new hospital which was erected on Longworth Avenue in 1884. Palmer was a Charlottetown barrister, chairman of the board of the Union Bank, and president of other community and church organizations. Charles and his wife, Amelia (Jarvis), had a daughter named Helen Amelia Boyd Palmer (b. 26 October 1862) who died of unknown causes late in 1882.
These images were given to Katherine Dewar by Greg Gallant, curator at the Prince Edward Island Regiment Museum on Haviland Street in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The photographs were among military photographs donated to the Museum. The collection of photographs was found when someone was cleaning out an attic in Charlottetown.
The series consists of two photographs of “The Helen Palmer Ward” of the Prince Edward Island Hospital on Longworth Avenue in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
