This fonds consists of a history of the Prince Edward Island Music Festival prepared by Mrs. Jessie Beck in January 1961 for the Department of Education. An appendix to the history updates the period between 1961 and 1972.
The Prince Edward Island Music Festival grew out of the efforts of a group of Women's Institute members from the Charlottetown area who were interested in sponsoring a music festival. After the first festival in May 1946, a decision was made to open the festival to the whole province and the Prince Edward Island Music Festival Association was formed. Since 1946, the festival has been managed by a group of volunteers and continues to be held each spring.
