Jim Hornby was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. A folklorist, fiddle player, historian, and lawyer, Hornby holds a Masters of Arts degree in Canadian and Modern Literature as well as a M.A. in Folklore from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, and a LL.B degree from Dalhousie Law School in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Editor of the Island Magazine from 1980 to 1984, Hornby has written books and articles on PEI's history, folklore, and traditional music.
