Biographical history

Hyndman Bros. was a business owned by commission merchants Peter Warwick and Frederick William Hyndman (the sons of Robert Hyndman). The Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, store was located on Queen Street near Water Street. They also owned a store located in Montague. Hyndman Bros. may have been in operation for for over twenty years, from the late 1850's to the early 1880's. The business underwent changes throughout its existence - general store and tobacco factory in the mid-1860's, dry goods and liquors by the mid-1870's and in the early 1880's ship owners and brokers.

The business was probably run primarily by Peter, as Frederick had other pursuits throughout this period - a position in the navy, provincial auditor, Marshal of the Vice-Admiralty court and founder of an insurance business. Peter may have run the business until the early 1880's when he and his family emigrated to North Dakota, USA.
