History

The first meeting of the Irishtown Women's Institute was held in Irishtown, Prince Edward Island, on 12 July 1937 at the home of Mrs. Alex. Campbell. The 12 original members elected an executive consisting of Miss Alma Campbell as President, Mrs. Wilfred Campbell as Vice-president and Mrs. Wilfred Campbell as Secretary-Treasurer. Meetings were held in the school initially. Activities throughout the years supported community initiatives such as the school and paying the music teacher's salary, the local hall, and the 4H group. They also supported other organizations including the orphanages, the Red Cross, and the Prince County Hospital.
