Sutherland, John C.

Biographical history

John C. (Jock) Sutherland was a Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island resident from 1952 until his death at the age of 93 on 5 October 2002. He was married to Nancy Weeks (1912-1998), daughter of Harry Walter Weeks and Fallie K. Baird. Sutherland held a M.A. from the University of Edinburgh and taught mathematics at Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown from 1963 to 1967. Prior to that date he had worked for Hyndman's Insurance. Sutherland was a man intensely interested in his community and in his country and paid close attention to current events and social and political issues. He was for a time treasurer of the Caledonia Club and was an active member of the Charlottetown Y's Men's Club, acting as the editor of the club's bulletin "Offshore breezes" in 1960/61. He was an avid gardener and was a member of the P.E.I. Rose Society serving on the executive and on committees which orgainized the annual rose shows. He lived at 129 Fitzroy Street until October 2000 when he moved to Whisperwood Villa.
