Biographical history

J. Edward MacInnis, a native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, began collecting in his later years some published works about the history of Canada, particularily his home province. After his death in November 2000, his family chose the newly opened MacNaught History Centre and Archives as a repository for his small collection of publications.

Custodial history

Mr. MacInnis owned the material until his death on 9 November 2000, after which the family assumed ownership. In December 2000, the material was donated by Michael (Mike) MacInnis, the son of Mr. MacInnis, on behalf of the family.

Scope and content

The collection consists of 27 books and 48 issues of the Island Magazine. Most of the items have been shelved in the reference library in the MacNaught Reading Room. Duplicates are held in storage.

Arrangement

The books are arranged on the reading room shelves by broad subject areas. They have been labeled to identify the donation. The magazines are shelved separately.
