James W. Curley was born on 13 November 1892 to John Curley and Mary Ann MacDonald of Brookvale, Lot 30, Prince Edward Island. After teaching for a few years at Green Bay he returned to school at St. Dunstan's College in Charlottetown, graduating in the class of 1917. After obtaining his PhD he taught at the University of Saskatchewan and at St. Pat's College in Ottawa. He was married to Maura Reynolds. He died in Ottawa in 1970.

The collection consists of menus and programs from two celebrations: the St. Thomas Acquinas Anniversary Banquet at St. Dunstan's in 1916, and the Archbishop's Silver Jubilee Banquet in honour of Rev. James C. MacGuigan, Royal York Hotel, 20 June 1943.
