History

George Artemas Leard was born in Souris, Prince Edward Island, on 13 March 1908 to Waldron Brewer Leard and Emily Ayers. He was married to Olga Leard. George was educated at Souris High School and Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown. After the death of his father in 1927, he entered into a partnership with his brother Ray in the family menswear business which was established in Souris by Waldron in 1898. George was also involved in the community as a member of the board of trustees for the Souris Hospital and as the secretary-treasurer and superintendent of Sunday Schools for St. James United Church. He had a great interest in Prince Edward Island history and genealogy. He wrote several books including "Historic Bedeque", "Summerside Saints and Sinners", and "Claws, Tales and Tomally". George died on 17 May 1967.
