Notice biographique

Millie Robertson Gamble was born 17 January 1887 in Cascumpec, Prince Edward Island to Jane (Nelder) and Thomas Gamble. The family, including Millie's sisters Helena (1885-1972) and Mabel (1889-1905), moved to Tryon prior to 1891. Millie received her teacher's license from Prince of Wales College and taught at Tryon School for several years. During the summer of 1904, while visiting her uncle in Truro, Nova Scotia, Millie was given her first camera, a Ray No. 1, manufactured by the Ray Camera Company of Rochester, New York. Millie Gamble went to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1919 to study nursing and graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1922. She returned to Tryon and worked in the nursing field until her retirement in 1949. Millie was actively involved in her community through her membership in the Tryon United Baptist Church, Women's Missionary Society and the Tryon Women's Institute. In her later years, Millie lived with her niece, Mrs. Adelaide (Ives) Wood. Millie died at the Westwood Manor on 13 February 1986.
