Biographical history

The North Rustico Fishermen

Custodial history

The minute books were given by Mrs. Clarice Gallant to students working with former UPEI professor Gary Webster on a Secretary of State Student Community Service Project in 1976. Mr. Webster donated the books to the Public Archives and Records Office in 2003.

Scope and content

This fonds consists of minutes of general meetings and meetings of the executive of the North Rustico Fishermen's Union and, later, the North Rustico Fishermen's Co-operative. The books were created by the various secretaries of the co-op, most prominently Mr. Alban Peters (the first secretary of the co-op), Mr. Thomas Johnston, and Mrs. Joseph L. Gallant. Some books also contain lists of officers, members, boat owners, and a few scattered inserts, such as a resolution printed on co-op letterhead. Volume 2 is a typed transcription, all other volumes are the original minute books. The minute books covering the periods 1941 - 1943 and 1961 - the end of the Co-op in the early 1970s are missing.
