Biographical history

Northumberland Ferries Limited was incorporated by private statute in April 1939 in Prince Edward Island after having been incorporated in January 1939 in Nova Scotia and a change of ownership. The company began operating a car ferry service between Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island and Caribou, Nova Scotia in 1941 with the "Prince Nova", formerly the "Erie Isle", a 14-vehicle transporter which operated until 1958. Other ferries which have been in operation for Northumberland Ferries Limited include: "Charles A. Dunning", "Lord Selkirk", "Prince Nova", "Prince Edward", and "Confederation". Northumberland Ferries Limited continues its May to December ferry operations.
