Biographical history

Alfred and Mabel (Gavin) O'Brien lived in Elmsdale, Prince Edward Island. They had three children; Earl, Edna, and Alfreda. Edna and Alfreda were school teachers and taught in various schools in Prince County in the 1950s. Both were killed when the car they were travelling in was hit by a train on Belvedere Ave. in Charlottetown on 15 July 1959.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of a photocopy of a photo album (scrapbook) kept by Edna and Alfreda O'Brien. Images are predominantly of individual student or group photographs of classes taught by Edna or Alfreda at St. Eleanor's, Ellerslie/Bideford, O'Leary, Bloomfield, Carleton, and West Devon, Prince Edward Island and South Armdale, Nova Scotia in the 1950s. There are also snapshots of friends, family and school activities.
