Scope and content
The series consists of the photographs and textual records compiled during preparation for the exhibition "Of Merchant, Fox, and Sail" held at the Eptek National Exhibition Centre in Summerside from 27 September to 1 November 1992. The exhibition featured fifty-one historic buildings of Summerside painted by Diana Lemire Savidant and resulted in the publication of a walking tour brochure. The colour photographs of residences and other heritage structures were taken by Diana's husband Allan Savidant. He also gathered information about the buildings from books, earlier walking tour booklets, and questionnaires sent to owners of the houses. Some of the sheets have been annotated by Faye Pound, local historian, who borrowed the materials from Allan Savidant while she was writing the text for the "Heritage Walking Tour" published by the City of Summerside in 2000. The series also contains some bilingual text describing paintings in the exhibition, a bilingual brochure describing the exhibition, and a 45 minute videotape of the exhibition's official opening. A copy of the 1992 foldout walking tour produced in conjunction with the Summerside and Area Historical Society, a diagram of the path of the 1906 fire, and notes by Allan Savidant and Faye Pound can also be found in the series.
