James Bardin Palmer Jr. was the son of James Bardin Palmer, prominent Charlottetown lawyer and politician, and Millicent Jones. He married Anne Maria Marshall of Desable, Prince Edward Island. He owned a substantial property in Desable named "Ozendyke" where he farmed some 313 acres. James and Anne Maria had eight daughters: Lilla (Lilly) (1855-1943), Lucy (1865-1944), Amelia (1867- ), Sarah, Ida, Edith, Mary, Amy and Aggie and one son, Hedley. Lilly Palmer married W. Henry Inman in 1877 and moved to his farm in Hampton which was called "Birchwood", now "Redcliffe Downs". They had four daughters, one of whom was Mary, and a son, Arthur. In 1894 following a career as a school teacher in Bonshaw and Malpeque and later as a music teacher on the South Shore, Lucy Palmer married George Leslie Haslam (1864-1947)of Springfield and moved to their new farmhouse "Hazeldean" where they were to raise five children, Gladys Muriel, Robert Jarvis, Reginald Heber, George Lloyd, and Albert James.
