The Prince Edward Island Subscription Library was established in 1825, so that books would be kept in a library "for the purpose of exerting applications for books by subscribers, who shall be entitled to them in rotation as applications are made."

The fonds consists of a minute book, which documents the meetings of the PEI Subscription Library executive from 28 October 1825 to 13 May 1846. In addition to the minutes, the book also contains the by-laws of the group, and lists of books ordered annually.
