History

The Rennies Road Women's Institute was organized at a meeting at the Rennies Road School, Prince Edward Island, on 2 March 1953. Mrs. Manning and Miss Robin spoke about the purpose of the Institute in the district. The first officers were elected: President - Mrs. Harold MacDonald; Vice President - Mrs. Fred Smith; Secretary Treasurer - Mrs. John Craswell; Directors - Miss. Mildred Gass, Miss. Louise Doiron; Auditors - Mrs. Don Bulman, Mrs. Harry Smith. The first regular meeting of the Rennies Road Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. John Craswell on Wednesday 11 March 1953. The Institute raised money to supply the needs of the Rennies Road School, which was in operation until 1972. In 1954, the Women's Institute raised money for a school well, and in 1956 they were able to assist in putting electric lights in the school. The Institute was dissolved in 1988.
