History

Joseph Rogers was born in 1833 in Carmathen, Wales and emigrated to Prince Edward Island with his parents in 1839. He is listed as a blacksmith in the 1861 census, and as both a farmer and blacksmith living in North Bedeque in Meacham's 1880 Atlas. Joseph married Sarah Hall (?-1877), daughter of Jonathan and Jane Ramsay Hall on 14 March 1876. They had one daughter Anna, (1877-?) who married Russell S. Burns. Joseph married his second wife, Isabelle Ross Hyde (?-1900), daughter of Reverend Ross of North River on 8 March 1898. In his later years, Joseph lived with his daughter Anna in South Freetown where he died in 1916. He is buried in the Lower Bedeque cemetery.
