History

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 22 in Ellerslie, Prince Edward Island, was organized on 29 November 1956 at the Ellerslie Legion Hall. Meetings were held monthly from that date on. The purpose of the Auxiliary was to raise funds to support this Branch of the Legion by paying for maintenance, renovations, and furniture and equipment for the Hall, and catering to special Branch occasions. Money was raised by running the canteen in the Legion, holding dances and selling lunches, conducting raffles, and catering to weddings, anniversaries and sports functions. The Auxiliary also participated in other benevolent activities such as Christmas cheer boxes, hospital gifts and scholarship funds.
