History

The South Lake Women's Institute was organized in South Lake, Prince Edward Island on 7 July 1952 by Miss Mary Robin. Mrs. George Cheverie served as the group's first President, with Mrs. Helen MacLean as Vice-President, and Miss Beth Fraser as Secretary. Meetings were held monthly at the homes of members. The group volunteered their time and efforts with organizations such as the Red Cross, UNICEF, and the Easter Seals Campaign. They were also very involved in supporting the local school in various capacities, such as raising funds for a new furnace, and providing new chairs and desks.
