History

The formation meeting of the South Milton Women's Institute was held in South Milton, Prince Edward Island, at the home of Mrs. T. A. Rodd on the evening of 6 July 1936. Mrs. G. A. Coles was chosen as the first President with Mrs. Elmer Duffett as Vice-President and Mrs. Jas. Coles as Secretary-Treasurer. The institute had an ambitious program with various committees struck to organize visits to the sick, support the local school, and establish a girls sewing club. The group organized socials and fundraising drives to support their programs. Over the years they've made many contributions to their community and as well as organizations such as the Red Cross, the T. B. League and the Salvation Army.
