History

St. Dunstan's College, founded in 1855, succeeded the earlier St. Andrew's College (1831-1844), a school to prepare young men for the priesthood. The college received its university charter in 1917. In 1969 St. Dunstan's ceased to exist when it was amalgamated with Prince of Wales College to become the University of Prince Edward Island.
