Biographical history

St. James Roman Catholic Church was erected in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island, ca. 1837-1837 with the lumber obtained from the dismantling of the Catholic church in Pamure Island. Until that date, Catholics in the Georgetown area attended mass either in Launching or Pamure Island. Rev. John MacDonald first served the congregation until he was replaced by Rev. Francis MacDonald who served for 40 years. The original wooden structure, which was enlarged in 1852, served the congregation until 1919 when it was replaced by a brick structure. The latter building was replaced in 1974.

Custodial history

Scope and content

This fonds consists of three 35 mm. microfilm reels containing baptismal (1852-1980), marriage (1875-1985), and death (1875-1985) records from St. James Roman Catholic Church, Georgetown. Also included are two photographs; the first of the church building itself and the second of a group of parishioners standing in front of the church. The pictures were presumably taken in the late 1960s or early 1970s.
