St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Iona, Prince Edward Island first opened for worship in 1852. It burned to the ground on New Year's Day in 1926 and was rebuilt the same year. The second church also burned on 6 January 1959 before the interior was completely finished. The current church was built in that same year.
Published
Title based on provenance of the fonds
The fonds consists of a baptismal, marriage and death register of St. Michael's Church recording these events from 1865 to 1986. Confirmations are also recorded from 1891-1984. There are also indexes to, and separate volumes of transcripts of the baptisms, marriages and deaths.
Because access to records recorded after 1900 is restricted by the Diocese, a break in the filming of the registers was made in 1895 and records after that date appear on Reel 2 although all indexes appear on Reel 1.
Originals were returned to the donor
RECORDS AFTER 1900 ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR CONSULTATION WITHOUT APPROVAL FROM THE DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTETOWN
PERMISSION FOR REPRODUCTION IS ALSO REQUIRED FROM THE DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTETOWN
