In 1946, the St. Peter's South Women's Institute joined with other Women's Institutes in the St. Peter's Bay, Prince Edward Island, area to form the St. Peter's Bay Women's Institute with Mrs. K. E. MacCallum as president. The members continued their work on behalf of the local schools and libraries. They also initiated such programs as the Safety Campaign geared at educating the community on farm, highway, fire, and water safety. As part of this program, the Institute was also instrumental in bringing ambulance service to the area and establishing baby sitting training courses for teenagers. The Institute ceased to function some time prior to 2000.

Notice biographique

The St. Peter's South Women's Institute was organized on 22 October 1923 with Mrs. P. J. Power as first president. At the regular monthly meetings, members organized pantry sales, teas, concerts, dances, and other events to raise funds for the local school and library. They purchased supplies and furnishings for the school as well as undertook regular cleaning and maintenance of the building. The members also contributed to various charitable organizations such as the Red Cross, UNICEF, and the Salvation Army. In 1946, the St. Peter's South Women's Institute joined with other Women's Institutes in the area to form the St. Peter's Bay Women's Institute with Mrs. K. E. MacCallum as president.

This fonds consists of two volumes of minutes of the St. Peter's South Women's Institute spanning the years 1923-1927 and 1933-1939 as well as two minute books for the St. Peter's Bay Women's Institute for the years 1952-1969. The minute book dated 1961-1969 also contains a record of accounts and lists of members. Other items in the fonds include scrap books of the Safety Campaign and Baby Sitting Training Program as well as a book entitled "How to Make Hats" and a history of Cable Head.
