Daniel Benjamin Stewart was born on 6 December 1835 to Charles Stewart and Elizabeth Wiseman, residents of the Brackley Point Road near Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He emigrated to New Zealand on board the "Prince Edward" in 1859. He died on 7 April 1870 when he was washed overboard from the schooner "Coquette" on a voyage between Auckland, New Zealand, and the Fiji Islands.
