Biographical history

The Summerside Church of Christ was founded on 13 September 1858 in the home of Benjamin Schurman of North St. Eleanors, Prince Edward Island. Fifteen people attended this first meeting, which was led by Reverend Donald Crawford. The first officers included John Crawford as Elder and Benjamin Schurman, Samuel Rodd, and Richard Murray as Deacons. Services were held in Patrick Brown

Scope and content

The fonds consists of the registered baptisms for 1858-1962, marriages for 1892-1962, and deaths for 1892-1962. Also included are the register of elders (1858-1962), register for deacons (1858-1926), register of trustees (1862-1915), register of clerks (1891-1961), register of ministers (1881-1950), the membership record book for 1961-1978, church records for 1894-1941, and the minutes for 1947-1954. The fonds also contains church history records compiled by Grace Brow Beattie who obtained the information from her father, Thomas Beattie, a charter member of the Summerside Church of Christ.
