Custodial history
Scope and content
This collection consists of one CD-ROM which contains transcripts of letters written by Gordon Lawrence MacLaren of New Perth, Prince Edward Island to his parents during World War I. The CD-ROM also includes a copy of a photograph of Mr. MacLaren (ca. 1917-1918). Interspersed among the letters are photographs and summaries of relevant war-related topics which flesh out the background to the letters. These photographs and summaries are from unknown sources, unless marked. The transcriber adds remarks to clarify issues that would have been visible in the original records, such as missing pages, illegible words, etc. Gordon MacLaren's letters offer descriptions of landscapes and daily routines, as well as opinions on the war, politics and education. Also included in the collection are a few letters from MacLaren to other recipients, a few letters to or about MacLaren and one letter from King George in recognition of his "faithful services" rendered to the "Mother Country".
