Biographical history

W. L. Whelan is a descendant of Dr. William Michael Whelan (1871 - 1929) and Martina Curley (1881- 1973), both born in Prince Edward Island. W. M. Whelan practiced medicine in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and later in Newfoundland. Prior to attending the Baltimore University School of Medicine he had studied medicine by assisting prominent physician Stephen Rice Jenkins in his practice in Charlottetown. S. R. Jenkins was the fourth of five generations of doctors in a family of considerable influence in the history of Charlottetown.

The fonds contains articles written by W. L. Whelan about his own ancestors, the Whelans and the Curleys, as well as about the Jenkins family in whose colourful history he became much interested during his genealogical research.
