Scope and content
On 22 June 1885, a group of Methodist women from the Cornwall, Prince Edward Island area met to form the Cornwall Branch of the Women’s Missionary Society. Mrs. H. P. Cowperthwaithe, the retiring minister’s wife, was elected President. The first executive also included Mrs. Samuel Hyde as First Vice-President, Miss. N. Nelson as Second Vice-President, Mrs. William Boyle as Corresponding Secretary, Hannah C. Crosby as Recording Secretary, and Mary J. Stone as Treasurer. The WMS met the first Thursday of every month to discuss matters of interest and to raise money for their missionary efforts. Membership with the Cornwall WMS was high but attendance at regular meetings was low.
The subseries consists of the minutes of the Cornwall Branch of the Women's Missionary Society for the period 1885 to 1961.
