Historique

Winfield Chester Scott McLure, a school teacher, parliamentarian, and fox farmer, was born at North Rustico, Prince Edward Island on 16 March 1875, the son of John McLure and Caroline McNeil Woolner. Chester taught school in the Province from 1891-1899 and then became a fur farmer and raw fur merchant in Charlottetown. He was the President of the McLure and McKinnon Silver Fox Farms Ltd and was co-author with Dr. J.C. Allan of "Theory and practice of fox farming". He served as a Member of the P.E.I. Legislative Assembly from 1923-1930 and was then elected to the House of Commons in Ottawa. Although defeated in the general elections of 1935 and 1940, he was re-elected in the elections of 1945 and 1950. On June 25, 1901 he married Lottie Evelyn, daughter of Theophilus Brehaut of Alexandra. They had one child, Lena Caroline, who became a musician. W.Chester S. McLure died on 18 June 1955. Lottie (Brehaut) McLure died in 1960.
