Historique

A meeting of the representatives from the Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian Churches of the Provinces of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, with the head of the Salvation Army was held in the YMCA building in Moncton, New Brunswick on the 17 May 1920. The agenda of this meeting concerned the possibility of establishing a home for women and girls which would be Maritime wide in its scope. The Moncton Home for Women was established that year. The name was changed to the Interprovincial Home for Young Women in February of 1923. This establishment was to provide a home for the care and redemption of women 16 years of age and older who had been convicted of a crime where a sentence of not less than one year or more than three years had been imposed. The management of the home was vested in a Board of Governors and the Superintendent or Officer in Charge was appointed by and worked under the board. In 1983 the name of the Interprovincial Home for Young Women was changed to the Coverdale Foundation.
